SteelTrace and FutureOn Announce Strategic Technology Collaboration

to Create a Continuous Digital Thread Across the Asset Lifecycle

Published on Thursday July 9, 2026 by Erwin De Rijcke

MAASTRICHT & OSLO  — SteelTrace and FutureOn are pleased to announce a strategic technology collaboration to connect engineering design with trusted manufacturing and compliance data across the entire asset lifecycle.

By combining FutureOn’s FieldTwin® platform for engineering design and digital twins with SteelTrace’s Smart Manufacturing Records (SMRs), operators, EPCs and suppliers gain a seamless digital thread from design through manufacturing, construction and operations.

The integration enables engineering information, asset topology and manufacturing records to be connected into a living digital as-built, providing complete traceability, improved collaboration and real-time visibility into manufacturing quality and project execution.

Together, SteelTrace and FutureOn are focused on the energy sector, enabling operators, EPCs and suppliers to improve digital traceability, compliance and asset integrity across offshore developments.

The collaboration will include joint customer engagements, pilot projects and integrated solutions that connect engineering, manufacturing and compliance into a continuous digital thread across the asset lifecycle.

Filip Valica, VP Corporate Development at FutureOn, said:

“A digital twin only delivers real value when it gives engineers immediate access to the information behind the asset. As offshore infrastructure matures, operators need trusted material information to extend asset life, support maintenance and plan for decommissioning. Bringing SteelTrace’s verified material records directly into FieldTwin enables operations teams to quickly access the documentation they need to support maintenance, in-field repairs and decommissioning without searching across multiple systems.”

Tom Meulendijks, CEO and Founder of SteelTrace, said:

“Every offshore asset has a history. From the steel mill through fabrication and installation, thousands of records are created to demonstrate quality and compliance. The challenge isn’t creating that information, it’s making sure engineers can easily access it years later when they need it most. By connecting SteelTrace with FieldTwin, we’re making verified material records available alongside the asset itself.”

Development of the integration is underway, with availability planned for operator and EPCI customers. FutureOn and SteelTrace already share customers across the offshore energy sector.
